Dirty Dryer Vent causes $5,000 in property damage.

‘Dryer Fire’ Damages Lake Forest Home; No One Injured

Written by Adrienne Fawcett from a dispatch from the Lake Forest Fire Department:

The Lake Forest Fire Department was called to a residential fire on the 200 South block of Keith Lane mid-day Dec. 12 and upon arrival found flames in a clothes dryer, with heavy smoke throughout the residence.

According to information released to the media by the LFPD: “A fire was found inside a clothes dryer with flames starting to impinge on the surrounding walls of the room. A quick fire attack by the first arriving engine company with a dry chemical extinguisher and a water pump can quickly put out the fire. It was determined that all occupants safely exited the house and it was determined there were no life safety concerns. The crews on scene ventilated the structure of smoke and performed salvage and overhaul operations. A preliminary fire investigation was conducted and there was an estimated loss between $3,000 to $5,000 of property and contents.

“PUBLIC EDUCATION MESSAGE: A working smoke detector and fire alarm were key in alerting the resident and the fire department. Make sure to routinely check your dryer and dryer vent hose for accumulation of lint to reduce the likelihood of a dryer fire.

The call included 24 firefighters and emergency personnel; four engines; one truck; one squad car; two MICUS; and two other emergency support vehicles
